About this curriculum data

Source

All curriculum content on Bell.Study is sourced from the statutory national curriculum for England, published by the Department for Education in September 2013 (effective from September 2014). This is the curriculum currently in force for maintained schools in England.

The source documents are published on GOV.UK under Open Government Licence v3.0, which permits reproduction and adaptation provided the source is acknowledged.

Source documents

Every objective on this site is sourced from the following GOV.UK publications. Each subject and key stage page links directly to the relevant section on GOV.UK for verification:

How we digitised the curriculum

  1. Downloaded the statutory programme of study documents from GOV.UK for Mathematics, English, and Science.
  2. Extracted every curriculum objective, preserving the hierarchy: subject, key stage, year group (where applicable), and topic.
  3. Assigned a unique reference code to each objective (e.g. MA-KS1-Y1-NPV-01) encoding the subject, key stage, year, topic, and sequence.
  4. Flagged each objective as statutory or non-statutory, matching the original document classification.
  5. Linked each subject and key stage to its specific GOV.UK page for direct verification.
  6. Cross-checked objective counts against the original documents to verify completeness.

Reference codes

Every curriculum objective carries a reference code that encodes its position in the curriculum hierarchy. These codes are our own creation – the DfE documents do not use reference codes. They make each objective uniquely identifiable within our system.

How to verify an objective: Each key stage page on Bell.Study links directly to the corresponding GOV.UK page. To check any objective, click the “View on GOV.UK” link, then search the page (Ctrl+F) for the objective text. The wording matches the statutory document exactly.

MA-KS1-Y1-NPV-01

  • MA = Subject (MA = Mathematics, EN = English, SC = Science)
  • KS1 = Key Stage
  • Y1 = Year group (where applicable)
  • NPV = Topic abbreviation (e.g. Number and Place Value)
  • 01 = Objective sequence number within that topic

Verification and accuracy

The curriculum data was last verified against the GOV.UK source documents in April 2026. We check for updates periodically. If the Department for Education publishes a revised national curriculum, we will update our data and note the version change.

Our database supports curriculum versioning – the current data is tagged as the “2014 National Curriculum”. When a new curriculum is published, both versions can coexist so teachers and parents can compare them.
