15 days until the Multiplication Tables Check

For parents

The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a national assessment for Year 4 pupils in England. Children answer 25 multiplication questions with 6 seconds per question. This practice tool mirrors the real test format so your child knows exactly what to expect.

When does it happen?

The MTC takes place in June each year. Schools administer it during a two-week window in the first half of June.

How is it scored?

Children receive a score out of 25. There is no pass or fail – the results help schools identify children who need additional support with multiplication.

Which tables are tested?

All tables from 2 to 12 are tested (no 1 times table). The harder tables – 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 – appear more frequently, making up about 60% of the questions.
