For parents
The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a national assessment for Year 4 pupils in England. Children answer 25 multiplication questions with 6 seconds per question. This practice tool mirrors the real test format so your child knows exactly what to expect.
When is the MTC in 2027?
Schools must run the check within the two-week window starting Monday 7 June 2027 (so 7 to 18 June 2027). Each school picks its own day within that window, so ask your child’s teacher for the exact date. See the full primary assessment dates for 2027.
What is a good MTC score?
Children score out of 25, and there is no official pass mark – the check simply helps schools spot who needs more support. A full mark is 25 out of 25, which a large share of children achieve, and the national average is around 20 out of 25. Steady, accurate recall matters more than the exact number.
Which tables are tested?
All tables from 2 to 12 are tested (no 1 times table). The harder tables – 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 – appear more frequently, making up about 60% of the questions.
