The best teaching shouldn't be reserved for families who can afford £40 an hour.
Bell.Study exists to make high-quality, live teaching accessible to every child in the UK.
The problem
Private tutoring in the UK costs £30–50+ per hour. For many families, that's simply out of reach. The children who would benefit most from extra support are often the ones least able to access it.
Meanwhile, qualified teachers are leaving the profession at record rates. They love teaching but are exhausted by the workload, the admin, and the lack of flexibility. Many would happily teach more if they could do it on their own terms.
There's a gap between what families need and what teachers can offer. Bell.Study is built to close it.
What we believe
Group lessons work.
The Education Endowment Foundation's research consistently shows that small-group tuition delivers strong learning gains – often comparable to one-to-one – at a fraction of the cost. A skilled teacher with 10–20 engaged children can achieve more than most people expect.
The teacher is everything.
Technology can record lessons, mark homework, and track progress. But the moment that makes a child love learning is a human one – a teacher who explains things in a way that clicks, who notices when a child is struggling, who makes a lesson something to look forward to. We select teachers above all for that ability.
£5 is the right price.
Not free – because teachers deserve to be paid well for their work. Not £40 – because most families can't afford that every week. £5 per child per lesson means a teacher with 10 students earns £35 for 45 minutes of teaching – and every family in the country can afford to give their child extra support.
Safeguarding is non-negotiable.
Every lesson is recorded. Student cameras are off. There is no private messaging. Every teacher is DBS-checked and identity-verified before they can teach. These aren't features we added – they're the foundation we built everything else on top of.
The curriculum matters.
Every lesson, quiz, and homework task on Bell.Study is tied to the national curriculum. We've digitised 1,548 statutory objectives across Maths, English, and Science – not because it's a marketing claim, but because children learn best when extra support reinforces what they're learning in school, not contradicts it.
How Bell.Study works
Bell.Study is a live teaching platform. Qualified, DBS-checked teachers deliver 45-minute group lessons to children online. Parents pay £5 per child per lesson. Teachers keep £4 from every £5.
The platform handles everything around the teaching – payments, scheduling, lesson recordings, AI-generated homework with instant marking, and progress tracking for parents. Teachers focus entirely on what they do best: teaching.
Children interact through live chat, quizzes, and a help button. They never need to turn on a camera or microphone. After each lesson, they receive marked homework and can rewatch the recording at any time.
Trust and safety
DBS-checked teachers
Every teacher on the platform has a verified Enhanced DBS certificate and undergoes identity verification before they can teach.
Every lesson recorded
All sessions are automatically recorded for safeguarding purposes and so children can rewatch them anytime.
No student cameras
Student cameras and microphones are off by default. There is no private messaging between teachers and students.
Secure payments
All payments are processed through Stripe. A parent PIN is required for bookings and top-ups - children cannot make purchases.
Where we are today
Bell.Study is pre-launch. The platform is built. The curriculum data is digitised. 27 free educational games are live and playable without signup. We are currently recruiting our first cohort of founding teachers.
We are not pretending to be bigger than we are. This is the beginning. But the technology works, the economics work, and we believe the model can make a real difference to children and teachers across the UK.
If you're a parent, you can join the waitlist and your first lesson will be free. If you're a teacher, you can apply to teach. If you're a journalist or researcher, you can reach us at san@luiesan.com.
